Let's talk about appliances!
A couple things to keep in mind as we discuss appliances:
We ordered our appliances through out builders recommended supplier (it's a business that's local to us) and we got a discount for doing such.
We also got a discount for choosing all of our appliances through the same company, which we didn't intentionally do but ended up doing.
Our supplier also price matched competitors, which saved us money.
Something to ask about when choosing your appliances is that a lot of companies will not bring your appliances in the house upon delivery, they will leave them in the garage and often times the builder will not bring them in either so they are not responsible for any dings to the appliances. We chose a supplier that would bring them directly into the house and install them.
Also, keep in mind that not all companies colors look the same. For example, if you are doing stainless, the look of the stainless may vary from company to company. That was one reason that I chose the same maker for all of my kitchen appliances, so the stainless would look the same across the kitchen.
When we were choosing our appliances, we read a lot of reviews and did a lot of research. We also found the appliances and handled them in person to make sure we liked them- this is an important step. We had actually found one we liked until we saw it in person and opened the drawers and changed our minds.
We chose our appliances early on in the building process because our cabinet maker needed to know the exact dimensions of our appliances to help builder custom cabinets. It's important in this stage to plan where you want your appliances to go (do you want the microwave above the oven?). You may recall that we built a microwave shelf for our microwave- we had to decide this early on and I still love it! I especially love how hidden the microwave is from the main view of the kitchen.
For our oven, we did a slide in range where the knobs are on the front instead of the back which I think makes for a really sleek integration with the countertops.
All of our kitchen appliances are Whirlpool, so the our supplier built us a "package" which included our appliances and said us money.
I love oven, especially the option for a fifth burner. We chose a gas range for our oven.
Our range hood is something I never thought I would have selected because it's more modern looking than I had planned, but I actually do like it in the kitchen. We had discussed doing a custom wooden range hood, but that was very pricey, so we opted for this and I do love the look of it.
Our laundry room washer and dryer were also discounted because we got the set. I love them!
