Crockpot Applesauce

Apple picking and visiting orchards is one of my favorite things to do in the fall, but that usually means I end up with more apples than I need.

We usually end up making crockpot applesauce a few times in the fall and winter months. Not only does it make the house smell good, but the warm applesauce is so yummy and keeps in the fridge to eat over the next week.

Here's what you need:

  • 12-13 medium sized apples (I prefer Macintosh or Golden Delicious)

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1/4 cup sugar (use less if you like your applesauce less sweet)

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Here's how you make it:

  1. Peel, core and cut apples into slices. I prefer to use an apple slicer after peeling my apples to core and slice at the same time.

  2. Add lemon juice to apples and stir to coat apples.

  3. Add remaining ingredients to 4.5 qt or 5 qt crockpot and stir to mix well.

  4. Cook applesauce in the crockpot on high for 3-4 hours.

  5. Stir applesauce. Most of the apples will cook down into sauce but you may still have some chunks of apple left.

  6. If there are chunks of apple remaining, use a potato masher until applesauce is desired consistency. I like mine slightly chunky.

  7. Enjoy! Applesauce can be put into sealed containers (I like these jars) and refrigerated. I'd recommend eating the applesauce within a week.

Tag me on Instagram if you make it!
