DIY Door Mat (No Cricut Needed!)

When we bought our first house a few years ago, I made a DIY mat for our front door with lyrics from one of our favorite songs. We loved it, but it's been through three years of Ohio weather and it's no longer looking as good as it used to. So I decided it was time to make a new one!

Materials

  • Door mat (We got this one from Target. You can use any plain door mat as song as the fibers are not very tall, as it makes it harder for the paint to get in there)

  • Paint Pen (I used this one)

It's so easy! You just figure out what you want it to say and write it on the door mat. You can freehand it like I did or you can use a stencil. I would recommend two coats of the paint pen. You may have to go over some spots with the paint pen more than once due to the texture on the rug. Beware: small droplets of paint may spray on to your hands and arms while you're making this but they come off with a good scrub.

Let it try overnight and then it's ready to be put outside! If you want, you can spray a sealant top coat to make it last longer. If your paint starts to fade over time, bring it inside and add another coat of paint :)

It's so simple and with the materials being so inexpensive, you can make multiple and change it out throughout the year. I can't wait to see what you create!
