DIY Easy Embossed Coffee Mug

If you're anything like me when you visit Target, you visit The Dollar Spot as soon as you walk in. The other week I saw these adorable camp mugs for $3 and immediately the ideas started swirling in my head. So I picked this green enamel mug up and brought it home for some fun DIY action.

To make one of your own, you'll need a coffee mug (I got mine at Target's dollar spot but this one is similar), embossing pens, embossing powder and a heat gun (or a blow dryer!). I've linked the ones I used.

First things first, set up your workspace. When embossing, I usually work over a paper plate or something that collects the embossing powder I don't use.

Next, stencil your design on your cup (or don't!). I used a chalk pencils to plan out my design but if you're feeling brave, go for it! Use the embossing pens and draw your design on your cup. For mine, I went with a phrase that has been bouncing around my head lately as I practice patience with this build. It is well with my soul.

Then sprinkle your embossing powder over where you just wrote with the embossing pens. Be sure to brush off any powder that's not on your design but might be sticking to the mug. I love using paint brushes for this but feel free to use your fingers, Q-Tips, shake the mug or blow off the excess powder.

Lastly, use your heat gun or hair dryer to go over the embossing powder until the powder turns glossy/metallic. The sheen will depend on what embossing powder you use.

That's it, you're done! It's so quick and easy, perfect for a quick gift or a fun DIY.
