Recently, we celebrated my son's second birthday which included a Not His First Rodeo themed party. I've been sharing a bit on my TikTok all of the ways that we worked to incorpate the theme into the rest of our home decor for the event, and when I saw some rope letters on Etsy I knew I wanted to include that as part of the decor. I, like a lot of people on the internet, thought that it was someting I might be able to do myself and it proved to be easier than I thought!

Here's what you'll need:
Let's make it:
Line a large mixing bowl with plastic bags. Trust me, this will really help with cleanup as it gets sticky.
In your mixing bowl, mix together the 1/2 cup cornstarch with 2 tbsp water. Mix until you no longer see clumps of cornstarch.
Add the entire bottle of the wood glue to cornstarch mixture. Mix until well combined and set aside.
Prep your work area with parchment paper. I did two stacked rows to give myself plenty of space.
Cut your rope to size. I practiced writing out the name I wanted with the rope before cutting, giving myself some extra to cut as needed.
Add your cut rope to your glue mixture, making sure the rope is thoroughly coated with the glue mixture.
Pull your rope through your gloved hands to remove excess glue.
Laying the coated rope on your parchment paper, shape it the word or letter you want to create. I wrote my sons name and also created a letter A. The rope is pretty forgiving at this point so you can reshape it as needed.
As it starts to dry, you can press to flatten the rope. Let rope dry for 12-24 hours, the longer it drys the more stiff it will be.
That's it! Easy, and only requiring a few things you may not already have around the house. I used removable mounting putty to hang it on the wall and in the kitchen for the party, and both have since been moved to our son's room!
Here's the video on how I made it:
Let me know if you made it, I'd love to see!
