Living Room Cabinets (Ikea Hack)

Building our house on a budget meant that certain items got left out, built-ins being one of them for us.

I love the look of a built-in cabinet next to the fireplace to hide all of the tv things (and set the tv on until we mount it) but I didn't want a tv stand and I didn't want to spend a month or more building our own cabinets. I started to look online for media consoles/cabinets and didn't see anything I loved. Then I went on Ikea's website and spotted their HAVSTA cabinet with a base.

A quick, lazy crop to see if I liked the look proved that it's exactly what I was looking for.

I took a trip to Ikea to see them for myself and see if they decent quality and was happily surprised that they were solid pine with a slow close cabinet.

My mom came over and helped me put them together. I left the backs off for now until I figure out where I want to cut holes for cords. I also replaced the knobs with some that were leftover from our kitchen so that they match.

I got them put in place and I absolutely love them! Here's what they look like installed:

Overall it was an easy, quick and budget-friendly way to get solid wood cabinets with a similar look to a built in cabinet. Tag me in your posts in you give it a try!
