As we were discussing on today's Building 101 on my Instagram, where to splurge and where to save are important decisions that you'll make for your home. We wanted to make sure we were getting the best value for our money and that often didn't include some more decorative elements.
After weighing the pros and the cons, here’s what we came up with:
Splurge:
Extra square footage in the kitchen and living room
The wood-stained front door with 3/4 glass on the door + sidelights
Timber tech decking on the front porch
Some of our lighting (particularly the living room and the master bedroom fan)
Farmhouse Sink
More glass on the front door + stainable sidelights
Save:
No stand alone tub for me. Instead, we are going with an extra long drop in tub in the master bathroom (I'm tall!) because the cost difference was substantial
LVT flooring throughout and carpet in the bedrooms instead of traditional hardwood
The bonus above the garage will be finished at a later date
Installing open shelving in the laundry room instead of cabinets .
Didn't add shiplap or wood beams to the ceiling
Screened in porch to be added a later date
If you're building, I encourage you to prioritize what's most important to you. Follow along with our build on Instagram to see these decisions being installed!
